Spurs fans chanted Mauricio Pochettino’s name after their Champions League elimination to AC Milan

Tottenham fans sang the name of their former manager Mauricio Pochettino following their side’s Champions League elimination to AC Milan.

Antonio Conte‘s side were held to a goalless draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, meaning they will go another season without a trophy.

Supporters inside the stadium booed the team after the final whistle, with some fans making their feelings known about the management.

The Argentine manager spent five-and-a-half years at the helm of the North London club. He was sacked back in November 2019, with some fans seemingly wanting him back in charge amid their current state.

Conte, who was appointed Spurs manager in November 2021, is contracted till June, but he fears the sack following his side’s defeat to Milan.

Speaking after the result, he said: “My contract expires in June. We will see – they might sack me even before the end of the season, who knows, maybe they are disappointed.

“That is the third game in a row that we were not able to score.

“The game was in the balance. I think we can do much better offensively. I speak about the whole team, not only those who play in the front half. We can do much better.”

Conte added: “I can’t say anything negative about the commitment of the players. They gave everything from the start to the end. We finished the game with 10 men. But if I have to see a positive situation, it is that we had a step forward.

“We played in the Europa Conference League last year and weren’t able to get out of the group stages. Now we took a step forward but it is not enough and if we want to be competitive, we have to fight.”

As it stands, Spurs occupy a Champions League place in the Premier League table, but won’t be able to win any trophies, having been knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League in just over a week.
